Collingwood, Golden Bay
Situated in the north-west corner of the South Island, and at the western end of State Highway 60 in Golden Bay, Collingwood is a quiet little town, but there’s plenty to do if you love nature.

In the town you’ll find all the services you need, an On The Spot convenience store, a petrol station, and several places to eat including Tinky’s Tavern, The Courthouse Cafe, M.A.D Cafe, and Zatori Resort restaurant. The Farewell Spit Eco Tours leave from the centre of town.

Our home and my studio is located on the hill above Collingwood and is only 8 mins walk from the township, and about 12 mins walk to the beach which stretches for miles – great for long morning walks.

There is a variety of activities for non painting partners, or if you’d like to extend your stay after your workshop. It’s easy to rent a mountain bike to explore the beautiful Aorere Valley, or a kayak to paddle around Ruataniwha Inlet. Enjoy a horse trek along Wharariki Beach, where there’s a seal colony, or one of the many walks in the Farewell Spit Farm Park. Experience one of New Zealand’s Great Walks, the Heaphy Track, in the Kahurangi National Park, or catch an eco-tour along the entire length of Farewell Spit to see the historic lighthouse and Gannet colonies.
