EMMA, Golden Bay Local, Mentoring Sessions, Winter 2020
“I was so excited to find out that Lisa Chandler had not only moved to Golden Bay but was also offering painting/mentoring sessions. Lisa is a well respected and accomplished professional painter.  She has worked and exhibited both here in NZ and overseas in Europe and China, so has a wealth of experience of contemporary international art practice. She brings this knowledge and insight to our fortnightly sessions, inspiring and motivating. The environment she creates is friendly, comfortable and relaxed. Being a small group of 4 is ideal, you get to share ideas and learn off each other in a trusting environment. Lisa generously shares her technical knowledge and advice whilst encouraging us to explore our own ideas and approach to painting. I’ve learnt heaps so far and have definitely benefited from having her guidance and support in developing my own painting practice. Would highly recommend.

ELAINE, Golden Bay Local, Mentoring Sessions, Winter 2020
“I can highly recommend Lisa’s classes to anyone who would like to extend and develop their Art practice. Her mentoring sessions were just what I needed to get back into the swing of things. Lisa is very knowledgeable on both the practical and contextual understanding of the Art world.  Her studio is very welcoming with a fantastic selection of books and videos to get your inspiration fired up. Mondays became the highlight of my week.

SALLY, Regular Painting Sessions, Winter 2020
“I am enjoying the fortnightly art classes with Lisa so much, Lisa gives very useful technique guidance for our paintings and is encouraging and kind no matter what level of expertise we have”

LIZ, Nelson, Developing Creative Ideas, June 2020
Thanks so much for such a great workshop Lisa. I found it really inspiring and instructive  and I love the way you teach. Extra privileged to have such a small group and the whole weekend has been very restorative. My mind has been full of ideas and words, but I deliberately spent today slowing down and walking and relaxing in nature. I will let things percolate and start organising my workspace and materials over the next few weeks.

ANNE, Nelson, Acrylic Scapes, March 2020
Many thanks for your excellent and inspirational workshop and your generosity of artistic knowledge plus yummy meals! When I returned home my mind was still going in circles thinking about all the changes I would make in my art practice.  It is always a very enjoyable experience working beside other artists, seeing them work out their problems, until they reach a happy result. Not worrying about food preparation and cooking was a bonus – especially when it was so good! Thank you too, David, for your behind the scenes work.  A great team effort.”

BRIDGET, Nelson, Acrylic Scapes, March 2020
“A weekend at Art Haven with tuition from Lisa Chandler is inspirational. I learnt so much in a relaxed atmosphere, and wonderful catering and beautiful surroundings thrown in. Perfection! I meant every word of that. I think I enjoyed learning the technique for underpainting, using glaze, the most. Of course we revelled in your good cooking and it was so good not to be distracted by providing our own. Thank you too for that support from your partner (to my shame his name escapes me!) I told him he deserved a cut!! Loved your clear instructions and positive comments. First and foremost thanks for an unforgettable, great weekend.”

LOIS, Nelson, Acrylic Scapes, March 2020
My overall impression of the weekend was that it opened my eyes to different ways of approaching painting, made me determined to not keep doing the kind of stuff I’d been doing before – I’ve always been trying to escape realism but somehow have found it creeping back in all the time. Now it won’t!  Also, being focused entirely on painting for two days was such a treat – at home it is far too easy to get distracted by dumb stuff like housework. To be free of thinking about family concerns for a whole weekend and doing something thoroughly enjoyable was absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much Lisa.  It did me a load of good.

INKA, Wellington, One Day Mixed Media Workshop, March 2020
“The one-day paper workshop with Lisa Chandler was exactly what my friend and I had been hoping for. We both wanted to re-ignite our art spark again and we had a truly great day.
Lisa is very knowledgeable and generouswith advice, with sharing information about her own artistic life, with materials (artist grade paints, thick paper and canvas), and with food (got a great alfresco fresh lunch in her stunning surroundings with a lot of greenery and great views). It was a real treat to work with a successful professional artist.Lisa is very supportive, encouraging and full of ideas. We learned a lot of new tricks and techniques and she was making it all real fun!

SALLY, Collingwood Local, Art & Creativity with John Cornish, February 2020
“Thanks for a great weekend. I enjoyed John’s enthusiasm and variety of different exercises to invigorate our creativity. It was really helpful and reassuring to plunge into a variety of playful techniques with minimal pressure. I loved the small group so we all could interact well. The food was very tasty and healthy which was really enjoyable for sure, thanks so much for your efforts. The Saturday night film clips was great exposure to other artists and what they are doing, as well as having relaxing chat time to get to know others a bit more.
Kind regards to you three for such a smooth running weekend

MARTHA, Ireland, One Day Acrylic Painting, January 2020
“I’ve had the most wonderful experience here with the brilliant Lisa Chandler. She’s a fantastic teacher and a very talented artist, I learnt a lot in my full day class. Lots of tips and a great help with the process of what and how to paint. Loved using all the different tools to create something very unique. We had a gorgeous lunch and delicious homemade treats throughout the day. A lovely small group and definitely coming back, love love loved my little cabin too. It’s a little slice of heaven up here. Thanks so much”

DONNA, Collingwood Local, January 2020

Lauren Jones, and family, Wellington and UK, Half Day Beginners Painting, December 2019
“We absolutely loved our workshop with Lisa. Beautiful setting, excellent tuition and guidance, a very friendly host and a huge amount of fun. I never paint so was a bit apprehensive but enjoyed every moment of the 3 hours and was painting until the last moment. It was brilliant to learn some technique and to walk away with a painting I can hang on my wall. The refreshment break in the beautiful garden was wonderful too. We did this as a family and it was a great way to do something creative together. We highly recommend it.

MARION, Nelson, One Day Workshop
“I am feeling really over the moon and hug-me-happy about my painting I created on your workshop. I think for me the best part of it all was your willingness to share. You made understanding what to do so much better and easier without us feeling stupid. You were so positive and encouraging, and relaxed about it all. You gave positive feedback on our paintings and helped to ‘correct’ us where we hadn’t quite got the idea, without taking over and turning it into your painting. Thank you!”

MARY-JEAN, Nelson, Weekend Workshop
I attended a weekend art workshop with Lisa in Nelson. It was a well organised, stimulating and enjoyable course. Lisa is very generous with sharing her knowledge, techniques and expertise. She is also a valuable critic, which is always delivered in a positive manner. This course gave me the confidence to continue developing my new painting skills
