Say it without Saying it

A potentially liberating concept explored in a workshop led by Wellington artist and Learning Connexion tutor John Cornish
Suitable for all levels
Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st March 2021
NZ $395pp
Minimum 4 – Maximum 8 people

After we all had such an inspiring weekend with John last year, I couldn’t resist inviting him back to run another workshop this summer!

Message from John: “Sometimes you might feel a need to say something out loud and sometimes a little discretion is required. There are also times we might want to say something but not to everyone, not literally or overtly, fully representationally or perhaps abstractly?

This workshop looks at how all of these occasions can be catered for in your art and we’ll make a range of different work to test the options available. Within the process you’ll be surprised too as to how much it helps to generate ideas and possibilities for ongoing artwork.

This all becomes quite liberating if a subject is very personal, or you may have an idea but want to figure out how best to tackle it and present it. Art allows us to say what we want, however we want, and that’s pretty awesome. During this 2 days hands on workshop, I can help you with ways to do just that.”

During this workshop you will be painting, drawing, collaging, sketching, and using other approaches as you explore the many different possible ways of expressing and presenting your ideas. This way you can make sure it suits the occasion! John will guide you to look for clues and tips to help, in places you may have easily overlooked! The emphasis isn’t on learning painting or drawing skills per se, it is about building confidence in choosing how best to say what you want (if anything at all!!) and John insists it will be fun finding that out! Bring the ideas you want help with, but don’t worry John can equally help you with ways to generate ideas to get started. By the end of the weekend you’ll have at least one completed work, and more may well be possible!

John is a well known and loved tutor, and spaces are limited to 8 participants so get in quick!

SALLY: “Thanks for a great weekend. I really enjoyed John’s enthusiasm and the variety of different exercises to invigorate our creativity. It was really helpful and reassuring to plunge into a variety of playful techniques with minimal pressure. And I loved the small group so we all could interact well.

GWEN: “John is so gifted at making you feel good about what you do and giving you confidence to tackle things with enthusiasm no matter how you felt . . .it was a most inspirational weekend.”
